Tell Your Age Story

by Michael Feeley
I’m reframing aging as active authorship rather than passive experience. Asking questions about who we are and what we are becoming. Honoring the journey traveled and the path ahead. This exercise is a ‘sage-ing tool kit’ for excavation and discovery—archeology for the spirit.
The beauty of the questions asked is that they also validate that emotions, memories, and nostalgia aren’t just personal indulgences, they’re data that make up who we are. They’re how we’ve processed decades of living. They’re the emotional intelligence that only comes with time.
What is your age story?
What is the age story you tell yourself?
What age story do you want people to know about you?
What age story do people know or imagine about you?
If you could change your age story, what would it be?
I’m stacking questions on purpose because one of them will connect with you, and you’ll tell the truth you feel, and also discover new facts about your sage-ing.
To help you know your sage-ing self better, play along and have some deep fun:
What is an object that describes your antiquity – your past and present?
For me, it’s a vintage Mustang convertible. Well cared for, liked, loved, respected, valued with memories. The original slogan was – “Ford has a better idea, but only Mustang can make it happen.” You can make it happen.
What animal expresses you at this age now?
A fearless white egret – walking through deep water without fear.
What flower?
A yellow blooming daylily with gratitude.
What song?
“The Nearness of You” (me to myself) “The Nearness of Me.”
What place or location?
Venice – water, history, and more beauty than I ever imagined.
What smell takes you instantly to your wisest self?
What texture represents your accumulated strength?
What did you need to unlearn to become who you are now?
If you wrote a letter from your current sage self to any earlier version of you, what would you say? (Take a moment to sit with this one. You may surprise yourself.)
What are your demographics, and then describe your psychographics.
What is one thing people do not know about you at this stage (sage) of your life?
What is your next act?
What is an encore you want to give?
Take one question that stirred something in you and sit with it today. Please write it down and then share it with someone who matters.
Why not create a “Sage-ing Circle” – a small group where people share one answer and witness each other’s wisdom, turning individual reflection into a collective celebration.
Your wisdom isn’t just for you – it’s a gift the world needs to receive. Your sage-ing story is ready to be told.
Thanks – Michael (he, him)
