Strength, Needs and Gratitude
by Michael Feeley
DO YOU SEE yourself as strong or weak when you need help – at any age or time?
If you want and need help doing something, maybe learning new skills, hiring a plumber or electrician, how do you feel – proud to learn and need – foolish – too dependent on tutors, friends, strangers – happy or embarrassed to say, “I don’t know. Will you please help me?”
We can still be independent and self-sufficient when we need assistance.
We may depend on medicines for our health, taxis, food deliveries, and other people to help us get around and live well.
Gratitude is wise and empowering. It makes us strong when we need other people and things and acknowledge how thankful we are. Being grateful builds connections, confidence, and happiness.
