Possibility and Opportunity are Different
by Michael Feeley
Each day we experience the world and it’s filled with possibility and opportunity – “These are the playing cards in my hands. Now – What to do!”
We often use possibility or opportunity interchangeably but there is a difference (even though they are 11 letters each).
As I see it – possibility is something that might happen. ‘Could be. Who knows.’
It may be your dream to live on a Caribbean island or to meet Lady Gaga. Anything is possible but you have to take action and do some work for it to happen.
Opportunity is more definite. A situation where you chose to do something you want. A concrete choice you commit to such as accepting or turning down a marriage proposal or learning a new skill to improve and keep your job.
The question is – will you feel fear, remain still, stuck or you will you act and move? Will you do the work because something matters? Try and turn the possible choice into a real opportunity?
If it happens, fantastic. If not ‘… try, try again.’ (Remember that?)
You are capable of making change.
What you put out in the world will make change happen (hopefully positive change) because everything you do has an effect and it matters. You’re a committed, creative person. Maybe you find people jobs. Solve problems for your customers, build houses, teach, cook for people, entertain, drive a taxi, account, pack and deliver groceries, build websites, recycle, work in a bank, coach.
Whatever it is, it takes work and it creates change. You can make more changes than you possibly can imagine because any given moment is filled with possibility and opportunity.
