Name Your Ageing Self

Name Your Ageing Self

by Michael Feeley September 19, 2025

What if aging isn’t about slowing down, but about speeding up toward your true and best self with the power of identity?

As a career and life coach working with clients in their “Next Act,” I’ve discovered something remarkable: the names we choose for ourselves as we mature can completely transform how we approach this exciting life phase. When someone stops thinking of themselves as “retired” and starts embracing being a Renaissance Renegade or Silver Trailblazer, everything shifts.

The Neuroscience is Real

Every time you call yourself “retired,” you could be rehearsing irrelevance.

Every time you name yourself Renaissance Renegade, you’re rewiring your brain for possibility. The language we use literally becomes our internal operating system.

Consider the difference:

  • “I’m too old to start something new” vs. “I’m a Vintage Visionary with decades of wisdom to fuel my dreams.”
  • “My best years are behind me” vs. “I’m a Golden Pioneer creating my most meaningful chapter yet.”

Finding Your Name is Deep, Serious Fun

Bold & Adventurous: Renaissance Renegade, Platinum Pathfinder, Encore Explorer, Bodacious Sager
Creative & Passionate: Second Act Star, Seasoned Dreamer, Golden Hour Artist
Strong & Determined: Diamond Dynamo, Prime Time Player, Vintage Goddess
Wise & Graceful: Elegant Evolutionaire, Sophisticated Spirit, Refined Rebel,

The Transformation Empowers You

Picture this: A 67-year-old woman with slumped shoulders, talking to me about “winding down.” Two coaching sessions later, she’s sitting tall, her eyes blazing, calling herself a Silver Storm Force as she maps out the launch of her consulting business. Her voice went from a low, slow whisper to positive, smiling thunder. That’s identity alchemy.

Your Turn:

Read these names out loud. Which one makes your spine straighten?

Which one creates a change in you, makes you want to take action right now?

That’s your answer. That’s you naming your ageing self.

Pick a name or create one. Speak it out. Then do one thing today that a [your chosen ageing name] would do—send that email, make that call, take that first step.

Your Next Act doesn’t start tomorrow. It begins with this moment.

What will you call yourself as you step into your most audacious adventure yet?
