Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou was a great leader – American memoirist, poet, and civil rights activist.
When I think of her, these words come to mind:
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget
how you made them feel.”
That’s the truth – “… people will never forget how you made them feel.”
We each have a human obligation, opportunity, and choice to have a good effect on others through our words and actions.
How could you bear yourself knowing you didn’t have a good effect on another person?
Growing up, I remember how some people made me feel, from bullies to mentor teachers. It’s still true as I assess how others make me feel today.
My work as a coach is based on goodwill for people – bringing out the best in someone so they can live the vital, meaningful life they aspire to.
I never met Maya Angelou, but her presence in the world, her words, and her fierce, kind integrity profoundly affected my life. They still do.
That’s the story of a great leader.
