Invest in Empathy
by Michael Feeley
Empathy is your choice to imagine what makes another person do what they do. There are facts you can seek out to discover the truth about who a person is.
Empathy means doing the emotional work to see how someone thinks, feels, and views the world. It may be different from how you think, feel, and act.
Teachers can empathize with students who are stuck and need more personal attention. If they don’t care to try, then empathy is lost. It fails.
It takes effort to understand how others see the world. It’s a steady choice you can commit to and practice and become good at. The more you practice empathy, the more natural it becomes, and empathy can even lead and run you.
Invest in empathy. Commit to knowing, understanding, and caring for others in all you do. Take the time to empathize. Be curious. Use your mind and heart to have empathy. It will benefit your life and the work you do.
We all were built to have empathy.
