Gossip about Truth
by Michael Feeley
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN if you only gossiped about the truth?
Viciously told reliable, substantiated tales?
Attacked and spread the facts.
“Did you hear – Susan and Chuck are celebrating their 10th anniversary? Unbelievable.”
“Phil is on a rampage to teach people about recycling because he’s working to make a difference and help climate change.”
“Listen up about the latest hit-and-run. Mo sideswiped Ben and Max’s car while they were sitting in it, letting her pass by, and she never stopped. It seems she’s angry a lot.”
“I can’t believe Andy is not going to college but starting his own business. Good luck with that.”
“I hate Kate. She’s changing on me and has decided to be an anti-racist. No more contemptuous minority jokes.”
It takes the same amount of energy to tell the truth as gossip, and one choice has a much better effect on all the people involved than the other.
