Compete with Age

Compete with Age

by Michael Feeley May 13, 2026

The culture for ageing has a script for you.

60… 62… 65… Time to retire. Step back. Wind down. Follow the herd down the slope into quiet, polite obscurity. That is how it is done. That is what is expected. That is the rule.

If you have ever felt that pressure — the subtle push, the raised eyebrow, the well-meaning friend who says “Aren’t you slowing down yet?” — you know how heavy that script can be.

Reject it.

Compete with age.

Create a goal with an achievable plan to live your best life. Most alive. Rich with meaning and value. You may achieve more than you expected.

You are a Vintage Warrior, Rebel, and Champion, and this means you do not quit because a number or outdated and unkind retirement rules told you to.

You can still compete. You can still show up — fully, fiercely, with everything you have built inside you over a lifetime of living.

Write the book at 68.
Start the business at 74.
Learn the language at 80.
Plant the garden that won’t be finished for five years when you’re 85.

The creativity you carry is not expiring. The dreams still breathing in you are not past their prime use-by date.

You Are Not Finished Yet!

The hunger to learn, to build, to contribute, to matter — that belongs to you. Not to a calendar. Not to a culture that confuses age with limitation and dismissal.

Here is what I know:

Ageing done The Vintage Way does not diminish you. It deepens you. Every year adds to what you know, what you’ve survived, what you can offer the world. That is not decline. That is compounding.

Why not distill and concentrate all your life experience into something deeper and highly essential?

Set your own Sager rules. Move at your own pace. Live with the goodwill you deserve to give yourself. And then watch what happens when ageing tries to hold you back and finds you already 20 yards ahead.

Compete and surpass ageing. Let it chase you.

Let it say, breathless and bewildered: “What’s going on? This is not working.”

Go – Go – GO!
