Change Your Mind. Right Now
by Michael Feeley
You can change your mind in a moment. Choose one thought over another. It’s that simple, and that profound.
Not all anger deserves your energy. There’s just anger—rage against racism, injustice, cruelty—that fuels necessary action. That kind of anger protects others and changes systems. Hold onto that.
But the anger that eats you alive? The stress that accomplishes nothing? It steals your sleep. It tightens your chest. It follows you into dinner, into conversations with people you love, into moments that should be peaceful. Let it go.
Your tenant pays rent late again. You can stew, or you can act: ask them to find another place.
The person you hired neglected your property completely. You can fume, or you can fire them and hire someone responsible.
See the pattern? Choosing action over rumination isn’t suppressing your feelings—it’s protecting yourself. It’s recognizing that staying angry without purpose only harms you.
Here’s why we resist: unproductive anger feels righteous. It feels like vigilance, like we’re protecting ourselves by staying alert to the offense. But that’s the trap. Real protection comes from decisive action, then release.
This distinction between just and unjust anger strengthens you. It teaches you where to direct your energy and when to simply change course. It’s a practice, not magic. But it starts with one choice.
You have more power than you think. Better choices exist. New ways of thinking exist. You can access them right now.
Change your mind. Choose differently. Move forward. Care for yourself.
