Build the Culture You Want
by Michael Feeley
You can create a culture of hope. A positive way of life. A community for kindness. A mindset of generosity and abundance. Have a desire to make things better.
Or
You can create a culture of resentment. A negative way of living. A community of ill-will. A mindset of complaint and cheapness. A desire to disrupt.
It’s one or the other. It’s a choice and takes the same amount of energy to build either lifestyle. How you live and treat others is your responsibility and personal commitment.
I’m living on a 5 square mile Caribbean Island (my dream choice) with a Nespresso coffee machine, everything I need, incredible beauty and peace, electricity for my computer with Wi-Fi where I’m able to connect with billions of people around the world (not 50 years ago). It’s scientific magic! Making for boundless gratitude and opportunities.
Because of the advantages we all have, I have the vast freedom to learn new things – to work remotely – to build products – create and offer services – write a Blog – teach and work via Zoom video conferencing.
You can do anything you want if you are willing to try.
I’m encouraging you to go after what you are truly hoping for – constantly and perhaps wildly day dreaming about – yearning to do. Yes! You have these passionate, hungry, thrusting desires so why not be honest. Identify them and make them real.
– Figure out exactly what you want.
– Build your plan and starting doing.
– Be persistent.
If it falls apart. Start again. You have all kinds of options and skills and the greatest asset you have is your desire to succeed. Your own courage. Your ability to work hard. And – you also have people willing to help, if you just ask.
Be daring and don’t let anything or anyone tell you – ‘You Can’t’
In 1976 I stood up and asked to be heard (after waiting all day) to sing a song at an audition in New York City for the National Tour of the Musical – Shenandoah – starring John Raitt and Howard Keel. I wanted to play the part of “The Corporal” who sings a fantastic solo – “The Only Home I Know”. They said the part was cast but I believed if they heard me sing they’d give me the part. And – they did! I had guts to ask and my dream to carry me through.
That’s all I wanted to do from the time I was 11 years old – be a professional singer and actor in musicals in New York City – and 15 years later my dream came true.
I studied, worked hard, practiced and performed where ever I could. I was persistent. No-one was going to derail me from my dream. Yes. I was bold and had lots of confidence in my abilities and took a risk but I had to try!
I loved the art of acting and singing. Entertaining people. Making a difference in their lives with a play or musical for a couple of hours in an auditorium or theatre. Making a difference with words and music, acting a scene, giving a monologue, singing a song, performing a dance. Touching people; making them feel something to laugh and cry. It was the human connection… person to person… art and life.
The world wants to be entertained in concerts, theatre, movies, TV, parties, carnivals, lectures, workshops, classes, eating out, shopping, traveling +++
I have a life I love because I’ve always gone after my dreams. A magnificent life! Actor – singer – travel agent – headhunter – life coach – real estate agent – at home on the Caribbean island of Saba – consistently learning in online classes from
the Akimbo Workshop series created by Seth Godin.
I’m not finished yet and I don’t know what’s next. But the world is so big and there is so much opportunity. I’m eager to see and live more!
So PLEASE – Go after the dreams and the passions you have. Build the culture and life you want and deserve. All it takes is:
- Audacity
- Boldness
- Nerve
- Spunk
- Backbone
- Courage
- Guts
- Willpower
- Drive
- Moxie
- Deep-seated, heartfelt love for your creativity and art (have I missed anything?)
Build the Business Culture you want. People Culture… Creative Culture… Art Culture… Agri-Culture… Nature Culture… Wellness Culture.
Your Culture Options Are Limitless.
Thanks – Michael
