Bloviating
by Michael Feeley
I discovered a new word – Bloviating. It means going on and on and on and usually in a pompous manner.
It’s said to have originated in Ohio and was used by US President Warren G. Harding, who described it this way – “The art of speaking for as long as the occasion warrants, and saying nothing.”
It is definitely related to Blowhard.
It feels good to say out loud – Bloviate – Bloviating.
We all know people who are Bloviates. We’ve been in meetings with them, have them as friends, and probably been a Bloviate in our own lives at some time. And if not, why not try it on and see what it feels like to Bloviate?
Have fun with the word. See who comes to mind, and use it in some of your conversations without emulating it.
Thanks – Michael (he, him)
