Blind Trust

Blind trust. No questions asked, no doubt weighed, no evidence required. You simply believe.
It shows up early. A child’s trust in a parent, before trust is even a concept. It shows up in new love, when you leap before you’ve seen the landing. It shows up in faith, when you trust something you can’t prove at all.
Unlike the benefit of the doubt, blind trust doesn’t keep one eye open. There’s no 20/80 calculation, no “let’s see if they come through.” That’s what makes it beautiful, and also what makes it risky. It has no built-in safeguard. If it’s broken, it doesn’t bend. It shatters and most often is not repairable.
While sitting with this idea, I noticed this: take away blind, and you’re left with trust. That’s it. That’s the whole thing everyone’s actually after.
Trust doesn’t need the word “blind” in front of it to matter. Trust is the big issue. The one we hope for in a partner, a friend, a doctor, ourselves. “Blind” might just describe how we got there: all at once, eyes open, hope and confidence high and often earned over time.
Maybe the real question isn’t whether to trust blindly or carefully. It’s whether we trust at all, and whom we decide is worth it.
