Benefit of the Doubt
by Michael Feeley
When you give someone the benefit of the doubt, you believe in the good of that person. You apply trust to a hesitation about someone or something. It’s a positive belief and a good hope that a person will come through despite uncertainty about the truth.
We give people the benefit of the doubt all the time. We do it with family, friends, colleagues at work, our service vendors, and their products because we trust they will show up and help us somehow.
Giving the benefit of the doubt is a choice; when you think about history and specific people, you decide if it’s deserved.
