Bargaining
by Michael Feeley
SOME PEOPLE NEED to bargain – have to get a deal or discount – they refuse to pay full price.
It’s a choice—an attitude to the world to get something much more cheaply.
It’s also a game of power – getting someone to lower their price – lower their value for the services, products, and labor
they offer. (Would you ask for a discount from a doctor if you needed surgery?)
You can say yes, I’ll discount my work, lower my standards, or you can say no.
Why take less than you are worth?
Indeed, you can negotiate with respect as long as your value and skills are honored. That is your choice as a professional.
You have power because you are doing the work.
You have a right to be paid fairly for your work because you matter. Your honor matters.
