Assess Your Connections

by Michael Feeley
I recently discovered a friend wasn’t a friend but someone terrifically good at insincerity, manipulation, and playing people against each other. They are in the light and in the shadows.
It made me reassess people I know and work with. Self-interest isn’t integrity.
Silence and avoidance don’t work for me. I need honesty over shallow game-playing.
Time to evaluate. Ask yourself:
Who do you respect and why?
Who respects you and why?
Who brings genuine value to your work and life?
What’s the real level of trust in our relationships in and out of work?
Things and people are not perfect. Cut out the users and game-players. Choose connections built on mutual respect and genuine pleasure in each other’s company.
Trust your instincts about relationships that seem off so that you can live in your integrity and encourage the same in others.
