All You Want Is Possible
by Michael Feeley
We all have dreams, yearnings, plans, and goals for our lives, which include our work.
You may achieve what you desire most, and you’re happy for a while, being a lawyer, professional actor, college professor, therapist, or playing in a quartet, but you can also feel it is not enough. It’s not what you thought it would be, or you don’t want it as much anymore. You want something else. Something more… more.
That is perfectly okay. Don’t beat yourself up over the change of ideas and emotions. Life and careers are not a one-time thing to set in place forever. You are a curious surprise. Feelings and thoughts, as well as the ability to change and want new things, are natural. Allow it. Allow your ‘self’ to be and learn from it.
You’re not a failure. You’re not a little crazy or selfish. You’re a wise and successful human being. You’re not a stationary human doing. You’re in the process of living your best life, so you can feel “I love my life. I love my work. I’m expressed, an immensely fortunate person.”
– How deep, complex, and interesting do you think you are?
– What do you deserve for your ‘self?’
– How much do you hope to be fulfilled, and with what?
– How many wishes and needs do you have and want to try out?
– What are you willing to do to determine what you want, why you want it, and how can you make it happen?
You and your dreams and wants are possible. Try. Be bold, Take risks, Act, and ask for what you want. Create opportunities for yourself.
Mark Twain expresses it so well in words I adore:
“Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile. Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
