Gratitude and Pain
by Michael Feeley
GRATITUDE IS ALWAYS with us even in pain, frustration, learning, tragedy.
You’re working through something, digging deep into yourself, looking for a solution. Finally, when you find the answer, there is change – relief – relaxation – peace – happiness, and that is gratitude because the work you did to achieve something makes you feel proud and grateful.
On the other hand, doing nothing does nothing, which might make you cold and angry, which is the opposite of gratitude.
Would you please practice recognizing gratitude and call out your gratitude even as you meet the challenges of life?
The relationship between gratitude and pain is such an exciting study.
It shows how strong gratitude is as a natural force inside of us.
Often we focus on the pain and not the relief and success of change which is always gratitude and a force not to be ignored.
Gratitude helps change and makes for growth, and offers peace and energy.
Here’s what I often tell myself when I’m struggling:
“I’m so grateful I can do this demanding work because
I want to change and learn – to be happier and true to myself. The best I can be.”
