Don’t You Love Courage!
by Michael Feeley
COURAGE IS A DECISION.
It can be personal courage for yourself and also collective courage where you face fear – pain – uncertainty with others,
as a community, family, partner.
Courage can be mental – moral – compassionate – even physical.
It’s belief, confidence, passion, deep within your heart and mind, that you can do something because you want to – you must – it’s the only way you can live with yourself.
It doesn’t mean you’re not afraid, but you’re willing to break through your fears, maybe doing something you think you can’t or couldn’t do.
Fear and courage can work together. First, you have fear (anxiety or doubt), and it calls to courage, and then – you choose to act with bravery or not.
When I look around at courage, so many brave people, their words and life circumstances come to mind. Here are four I love:
1. “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” – Nelson Mandela
2. “Fear is a reaction. Courage is a decision.” – Winston Churchill
3. “The minute a person whose word means a great deal to others dare to take the open-hearted and courageous way,
many others follow.” – Marian Anderson
4. “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” – e e cummings
Don’t you love courage!
Where do you see courage in yourself and others?
Thanks – Michael
