12 Provocative Quotes for Indulgence

12 Provocative Quotes for Indulgence

by Michael Feeley January 3, 2014

WHAT ARE THE PLEASURES, desires, passions and gratifications you want and enjoy?

Maybe it’s shopping, getting a massage, eating at your favorite restaurant, walking along a beach, traveling, being alone, being in love.

You have the freedom of indulgence

Be extravagant. Allow yourself to think and feel and do what you please and hopefully…everything you do will make your life better. Stronger. Enabling you to live in happiness.

You’re in charge of your life. Every action, choice and intention you indulge in guides and shapes your destiny.

I’m reminded of these words from the Upanishads

You are what your deepest desire is.
As is your desire, so is your intention.
As is your intention, so is your will.
As is your will, so is your deed.
As is your deed, so is your destiny.

12 Indulgences

Here’s an opportunity to satiate yourself with thought…change…possibilities…truth.

Give yourself permission to indulge in these 12 quotations. Treat yourself. They express your deepest desires – caring for individuals, being of service, giving without thought of getting, making wise choices.  Each one is a gift.

– How do they stimulate the best things in your life?

– What do they do to your mind, heart and all your senses?

– How do they guide, control, fulfill and impel you?

Indulgence has energy, enthusiasm and purpose. It calls to you and asks for something. Listen well. Indulgence is irresistible.

It can be deeply religious and honor the highest of rituals such as good will and gratitude, which are indulgences deep within our nature and they have much to teach us.

There is nothing wrong with indulging yourself. Usually it’s seen as something forbidden. Something you shouldn’t do. A weakness you go to or give into. You can indulge yourself and be strong — increase yourself – not lessen who you are or betray your values.

Please – enjoy, play and celebrate these words. Find relationship and value in them for yourself and others.

1. Mind your business

How do you treat and care for your fellow man? The famous ghost Jacob Marley was chained to his choices; bound to regret, injustice and neglect. What does he teach you about indulgence?

Business! Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were all my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business.  – A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

2. Never stop learning

How do you best take care for yourself?

Then let us all do what is right, strive with all our might toward the unattainable, develop as fully as we can the gifts God has given us, and never stop learning. – Ludwig Van Beethoven

3. Here’s good news

You have potential.

Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don’t know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is! – Anne Frank

4. Finding faults

You choose to praise things, to find benefit or to complain. What runs you?

The fault-finder will find faults even in paradise. – Henry David Thoreau

5. What kind of service

How much is service your true nature?

It’s high time the ideal of success should be replaced with the ideal of service…only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile. – Albert Einstein

6. Belief

What do you live for and value above all else?

One life is all we have and we live it as we believe in living it. But to sacrifice what you are and to live without belief that is a fate more terrible than dying. – Joan of Arc

7. Knowledge

Understanding changes fear.

Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. – Marie Curie

8. You owe me

Here is playful imagination and joy. What do you owe another individual?

Even after all this time, the sun never says to the earth, ‘you owe me!’
Look what happens with a love like that, it lights up the whole sky. –
Hafiz

9. Give me

Connect with your heart.

No one can give you anything – love, shame, self-esteem – until you give it to yourself.
Today give yourself good things. –

We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong.
The amount of work is the same. –
Carlos Castaneda

12. Go after what you love

Indulge yourself in service.

I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you. – Oprah
